Yen Sid wants to take control over the darkness- that’s why he can control his own Heartless but he struggles with it, that’s why his appearance changes over time. Maleficent has her own goals and working together with Yen-Sid gets her closer to it. Pete is the “fool” she mentioned in part 11, he will return sooner or later.
